LIPEDEMA
The importance of a good diagnosis..
Early treatment and diagnosis are important to prevent disease progression, as it
can lead to mobility problems and other comorbidities such as osteoarthritis and
lymphatic insufficiency.
The diagnosis is basically clinical and must be well differentiated from other
diseases such as Lymphedema and Obesity.
We observed a disproportionate increase in fatty deposits in the lower limbs in
specific locations. In Lipedema there is symmetrical involvement of the
extremities that never affects the hands or feet (cup sign). Negative fovea, that is,
if the skin of the leg is pressed with a finger, the pressure does not cause an
indentation in the skin. Negative Stemmer's sign in feet and hands: it is possible
to pinch the skin in the first joint of a toe or hand.
